Limit Screen Time and Spend Quality Time Together
- Youth 8 to 18 years old spend more than 7.5 hours a day consuming media — watching TV, listening to music, using their smartphones, surfing the Web, social networking, and playing video games. —according to a 2010 study by the Kaiser Family Foundation. That adds up to 9.5 full days every month! Meanwhile, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children older than 2 watch no more than two hours per day of quality screen time, which includes television, non-homework-related computer time and video games for children and teens.
- Decide on a healthy limit to technology use for your family and make sure everybody follows it (including mom and dad)
- Turn off devices (TV, iPads, smartphones, etc.) at the dinner table and commit to making it positive bonding time.
