Use “Natural Consequences” to Teach Responsibility

  1. Consequences are a natural part of adult life and children need to learn this early so they are prepared.
  2. If you drive 70 miles per hour in a 50 miles per hour zone, there is a natural consequence – we call it getting a speeding ticket. If you don’t show up for work, you get fired. If you are rude and mean to people, they won’t like you or want to associate with you.
  3. Set up the consequences in your home so they “naturally reflect” the way we all have to take responsibility for our actions. Your kids will thank you later!
