Use “Natural Consequences” to Teach Responsibility
- Consequences are a natural part of adult life and children need to learn this early so they are prepared.
- If you drive 70 miles per hour in a 50 miles per hour zone, there is a natural consequence – we call it getting a speeding ticket. If you don’t show up for work, you get fired. If you are rude and mean to people, they won’t like you or want to associate with you.
- Set up the consequences in your home so they “naturally reflect” the way we all have to take responsibility for our actions. Your kids will thank you later!
