Which 5 hormones should you be testing?
As we discussed in our last post, there are many symptoms that can manifest from hormone imbalances. But humans produce a broad variety of hormones that represent a complex array of activities in the body, and each of them affects other hormones, so which ones should you have tested?
Hormones are like fingerprints. This means that instead of evaluating one hormone at a time, the only way to evaluate your particular imbalance ‘fingerprint’ is to test related hormones together to see how they’re interacting.
The best initial combination of hormones to test is:
- Estrogen
- Progesterone
- Testosterone
- DHEA
- Cortisol
As we have mentioned in previous posts, estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone are collectively known as the reproductive, or sex, hormones, and DHEA and cortisol are adrenal gland hormones. These five hormones will provide information that can be used to create a treatment approach tailored to you and your needs.
