Estrogens – Men
In men, estrogen plays a critical role in bone maintenance and brain function. Additionally, as men age a proper estrogen-testosterone ratio can prevent erectile dysfunction. One concern with the current American obesity problem is that estrogen is created from testosterone and one location where that creation occurs is in fat cells. Too much fat can throw the testosterone/estrogen balance off. Additionally, too much estrogen and too little testosterone are thought to play a role in diabetes, heart disease, prostate cancer, and chronic disease.
