9. Out-of-Whack Androgens
Androgens are a group of hormones that both men and women produce, which are primarily testosterone and androstenedione. These hormones regulate the function of the reproductive tract, bones, kidneys, liver and muscle. If androgen levels are too high (which is the most common androgen issue) it may cause polycystic ovarian syndrome, acne, loss of head hair, or hair growth in strange places (such as the chin or upper lip). If androgen levels are too low, it may cause loss of head and pubic hair, and loss of libido. This is common in women transitioning into menopause.
